The Story, in Short.
Today, I don’t have a boss. I am the boss. And I flip houses. One after the other.
I have been involved in renovations since childhood.
As an adult, I have undertaken a number of flips for myself (a few every year) and have helped a number of clients with theirs.
But it wasn’t always like this!
I used to have an extremely stressful career. From being an overloaded clinical psychologist, I reinvented myself and became a rushed artist in films and TV productions, before taking a breather with interior and spatial design as as service. I eventually walked, triumphantly, into my true passion: house renovations!
We all renovate houses to increase value…. But, what is increased value?
Classically, property “investors” (or “developers” ) interpret adding value merely as ‘adding a room’ or ‘going up into the loft’.
Much more than that, increasing value in property is making a home for people to live in it; is making sure that trades are happy to work on the project; is ensuring that each renovator gets what they need.
This realisation is what prompted me to put together FLIPIT, the flipping houses framework program.
FLIPIT stands apart from any other house renovation programs.
The approach is unique because it includes market psychology, interior design, and the importance of relationships, in any renovation.
Classically, property “investors” interpret adding value merely as ‘adding a room’, ‘going up into the loft’, or replacing dated fixtures and fittings.
So it is that most renovation programs point out the obviously old kitchen and dated tiles, they perhaps show you how to write a schedule of works and get quotes for a job, point you to how to find trades on well-known (and frankly useless) websites, and teach you how to download pre-written legally-binding contract to be signed by trades.
This goes way beyond that.
It also show you how to communicate with trades and establish relationships, so that they are happy to work with you on any project, with no dramas.
It gives you a proven method to control time and budget flexibly, for a cost-efficient, design-driven renovation.
It then deepens the focus, and weave all of that with what other people forget (or ignore): the psychological profile of the end customer, psychology of spaces, optical illusions, understanding of colours, space-plans, textures, people’s emotions.
With it, I give away a proven system that ensures detail costing, smooth running, and predictable outcomes.
With the know-how, pushing the value increase on any project can be achieved even in houses that do not lend themselves to the addition of actual extra space.
